My new book--Breath of India; 4 Friends on a Spiritual Pilgrimage-- IS NOW AVAILABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PLEASE READ AN EXERPT! ENJOY!! I felt like I was surrounded by love. Everyone displayed loving gestures, smiled, laughed and was egoless. Being around people without ego was a circumstance unfamiliar to me. We human beings demonstrate daily what it means to have an ego. If we observe the behavior of our coworkers, friends and family, we will see ego displayed everyday in every way. But not these people, these devotees. There was no ego present that I observed. I was impressed.
Through my years of studies in spiritual matters, the ego has often been brought up for discussion. We are normally cautioned about exhibiting too much ego, and then some author comes along with a book that defends the ego, saying, ego gets a bad rap. Ego is what gives us determination to succeed. Ego gives us the self-confidence we need to survive in the material world, and so forth. Personally, the egoless attitudes I witnessed were far more pleasant to be associating with than the bombastic egos back home. There was something positive in the idea of desiring to have less ego.
The first evening at Prem Nagar, we met Mahatma Ji Fakiranand, an elderly man with the smoothest skin I’d ever seen on a face belonging to one nearing eighty. He appeared very thin despite being dressed in a billowy, diaphanous orange robe, with a matching scarf draped over his baldhead. His smile revealed nice teeth, and I thought he was beautiful as he sat cross-legged on a chair in the room that the four people from Mexico occupied. Eight of us were seated on the floor, cross-legged, to hear our first satsang from this kind soul who would teach us about Knowledge. Three of us, Dr. T, Albert and I, had not been initiated, the rest had been in previous years. Experiencing satsangs was the way we would know if we wanted to be initiated.
After introductions, Mahatma Ji addressed Dr. T and then me, sort of giving us a heads up of what to expect during satsangs, preparing us for Knowledge. I paid close attention as he spoke because his accent was very heavy and he spoke softly. At the end of our visit, several came up to him, bent down to the floor and either touched his bare feet with their hands or with their forehead. I wasn’t sure what that was about, but I would find out soon.
We left for dinner and returned afterwards for more satsang with Mahatma Ji. He addressed each of us newbies, non-initiates, individually, and the words he used indicated he knew exactly who we were and we were not going to fool him for one instant. He saw into our hearts and knew with certainty if we were present with sincerity or if this was just another lark in our spiritual/psychic adventures. I’m not sure if the other two grasped that fact immediately, but I received the message loud and clear. I accepted the fact that he had the ability to see the true me and prepared myself to be stripped naked of any pretenses or secrets.
Mahatma Ji mentioned to me that I talk to spirits, recognizing that I am a medium, but he said that there is so much more. Then he said to put my worldly ways behind me. I wasn’t sure what area of my life he was speaking about because that could be interpreted into several areas, but then he mentioned the word social. Message received.
Our teacher went onto explain about having a master, a guru. Guru is a Sanskrit word. Gu means darkness and ru means light. The guru leads one from darkness into light. He said that a master shows the way to God and through the living master one finds enlightenment and comes to know the self. That was exactly why I was here; I wanted to be shown the way.
