George P. Colby, Founder of the Southern Cassadadaga Spiritualist Camp Meeting Association.

The Southern Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp was founded by George P. Colby in 1875.  It was prophesied during his childhood that  George would be the founder of a spiritual community in the South.  Colby was a medium and, years later, true to the prophecy, his spirit guides lead him to the place in Florida that would later become the Southern Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp Meeting Association.  Cassadaga received its name from a town next to Lily Dale, NY where there is also a Spiritualist camp.  Hence, Southern Cassadaga.  Cassadaga is an American Indian word  meaning rocks beneath the water.

Cassadaga was established for the purpose of being a haven for Spiritualist to practice their religion while escaping the cold winters up North.  It has always been a place where mediums lived, gave readings, demonstrated public message work, and taught classes.

Today, people come from all over the world to visit this quaint, historical community.  Cassadaga is listed on the National Register of Historical Places, and is located between Orlando and Daytona Beach, Florida.

To learn more about this tranquil community, read Cassadaga, Florida, Yesterday and Today.  The book may be purchased through this website.   Also, visit the official website of the Cassadaga Spiritualist Camp.
